The aim of the fund is to achieve a total return primarily by way of income with some capital growth. The fund will mainly be investing in European public sector sovereign bonds and corporate bonds, issued by companies domiciled in Europe or with significant European operations, denominated in a range of European currencies. The fund has the flexibility to invest in bonds issued by Eastern European issuers.

Martin Harvey joined Threadneedle in July 2006 and manages or co-manages a number of global and European bond portfolios. He has been supporting Threadneedle's absolute return capability since 2007, with specific responsibility for maintaining the short-dated bond portfolio, idea generation and monitoring the overlay strategies.
He also plays an active role in the formulation of the investment department's economic forecasts. Before joining Threadneedle, Martin worked for HSBC as a research assistant to the Chief Economist. He graduated in 2006 from the University of Bath with a First Class BSc (Hons) in Economics and is a CFA Charterholder.
